Replaces Elmo Transvideo. The TVT-S8S telecine models are designed for making high quality video transfers, with high productivity, from typical super-8 home movie film with normal magnetic sound. Flickerless running without speed tweaking by the user. No hard to find expensive light bulbs to buy. Unlike other brands, our new telecines run at the right speed. The TVT-S8S True Speed Lite design prevents the objectionable sound pitch and pacing and “Keystone Kops” speed of movement errors found in other equipment, which can amount to 11% (18 sped up to 20) or even 39% (18 sped up to 25). Much higher image quality than the old Transvideo machines which were adequate for VHS but lacking for DVD. No agonizingly slow transfer, separate transfer of audio, and maddening computer match-up and rendering is needed. Save your sanity with the TVT-S8S! You can connect directly to a stand-alone DVD recorder, or if you want to do computer editing you can record through a Grass Valley Canopus ADVC55 converter box, or a camcorder with analog video to Firewire pass-through, to generate a computer file.
Direct Imaging Picture Quality. A CCD video pickup, a special 1:1 macro lens system and our exclusive technology assures a sharp, steady image without the speed error or constant severe flicker of lesser equipment. Electronic image re-orientation eliminates the bulky, dust-catching and quality-robbing mirrors, multiple lenses and grainy little ground-glass screens of inferior setups. The exposure level is set manually on this latest version, which can be augmented by automatic exposure via camera AGC on the OSD camera model. Color balance is fixed at neutral. Emulsion side scanning gives improved quality in case of film that has a frosted base-side surface from wear.
True Speed Lite: Correct Sound Speeds. These newly invented models run super-8 sound film at the correct speeds of 18 and 24 FPS, the same as in the original film camera, within a fraction of a percent. The True Speed Lite feature gives smoother and more natural screen action via slight frame blending, which is visibly superior to hard inserting of entire duplicate video frames with a computer program. The correct speed means that you do not have pitch and pacing errors that make men sound like women, women sound like children, and children sound like chipmunks! No apologies needed with the TVT-S8S.
By the way, the exclusive new Tuning adjustment does not change the actual running speed. This is the opposite of the old Elmo TRV machines where a speed knob reduced flicker by altering the speed to 20 FPS in NTSC or 16-2/3 FPS for PAL models, either one being a highly objectionable error for sound film.
Improvements over the previous model: Greatly reduced pressure of the sound stripe against the magnetic sound head, and harder pulldown claw material, means longer life** perhaps 10 to 100 times as long as the poorly designed Bell & Howell parts. Reel capacity is 600 feet (180 meters.) Lower in price too!
Audio Reproduction. Models are based on the Elmo ST-180 and ST-600 projectors which have dual track audio, that is, they will reproduce either or both the normal track and anything recorded on the balance stripe, which might be music or narration recorded after the actual filming. The original volume control and level meter are still active so you can adjust the playback level to suit audio that was recorded at low volume. Audio output is through a 3.5mm mini jack, and a 3.5mm to RCA phono cable is included, as is a Y-cord for feeding the audio into both inputs of a stereo recorder.
Heavy Duty Construction. The mechanism is a modified and reconditioned Elmo super-8 sound projector of two models, so the appearance may vary from the picture, and all other parts are new and heavy duty. An exclusive new Tuning knob eliminates exposure pulsation, without altering the running speed, in case the speed is a little off for some reason such as belt replacement or adjustment drift. This is the same mechanism as used reliably in the Elmo Transvideo equipment that reportedly stands up to years of use, however our version is made to run at the correct 18 and 24 FPS speeds without the usual severe flicker, and has a much superior camera installed that also scans the emulsion side of the film and does not use short-lived lamps.
Models for NTSC (USA type) and PAL (European type) video:
Running speeds are correct 18 and 24 FPS (frames per second) within a fraction of a percent, for natural sounding audio. No harmonizer, pitch shifter or computer is needed for getting picture and sound at the right speed, in sync, and without objectionable flicker!
NOTE: The TVT-S8S True Speed Lite is temporarily not available as we are working on a re-design of it.
TVT-S8S True Speed Lite for super-8 sound film is $ for NTSC (USA) video and $ for PAL (overseas) video.
Please specify NTSC video output (USA type) or PAL video output (European type).
Please specify your local line (mains) voltage. TVT-S8S models for 120 volts AC current will normally be based on the ST-180 mechanism, and these are made for only 120 volts. If your voltage is something else, such as 100 or 230, we will base the TVT-S8S on the ST-600 which thus far always has an internal voltage selector for 100, 115, 125, 220, 230 and 240 volts. If we run out of multi-voltage ST-600 units we will instead supply an in-line transformer to reduce your voltage to 120. The two models are operationally very similar, except the ST-180 has a fader knob to vary the relative volume of the two tracks, when switched to dual track playback, and has a two-tone paint color scheme. The ST-600 is all black.

Film Preparation note: Before copying film on any telecine equipment, it is recommended that the film be first inspected and defective splices and damaged sections removed. It should then be cleaned and lubricated. Directions and sources of supplies are given in the instructions.
Can’t afford every possible format of telecine? Transfer companies who have bought some basic equipment from us, can have us copy odd format film on their behalf. See our capabilities here and contact us for more details.
TVT machines are not intended for transfer from negative film.
