Locating Used Equipment: If your favorite dealer can't help, and your local paper doesn't have what you want in the classified ads, the best place to find used cine equipment at a low price is on the Ebay internet auction site, under Photo Equipment, Movie, (but be careful about getting misidentified, moldy, corroded, creaking or wrecked equipment; the seller's feedback rating and comments are a good indication.)
You might look into the pulp publication "In-Sync," which has 50-100 pages of new and used equipment ads, by dealers and by individuals, monthly. Subscription price at last report is $15 per year and they have free trials. They are at 800 Knob Hill, Redondo Beach CA 90277 phone (310) 543-9045, fax (310) 543-9035, on-line www.insyncpubs.com e-mail In-SyncPubs@aol.com . A couple of new film magazines have appeared and these have a page of classified ads more or less. You might even see occasional ads for Tobin Cinema Systems. These are Small Format published in English in Germany, and Super 8 Today published in the USA.
Less useful magazines, from a used movie equipment standpoint, are the otherwise fine publications "American Cinematographer," / "Movie Maker," / "The Independent" and "Shutterbug."
8mm & Double-Super-8 Film: This is a bit out of our field, but this guy buys Kodachrome, Ektachrome and black & white film in 8/8mm bulk form and re-spools it for use in the old Regular-8 cameras which are still favored by some people for home movies, experimental filming, etc. He also claims to do even stranger things such as processing 9.5mm film. Martin Baumgarten's e-mail is Super8mm@aol.com and his web site is at Plattsburgh Photographic Services PPS - Supporting 8mm FILMMAKING .
Another gentleman named John Schwind also sells regular-8 B&W and color films, also double super-8, also has a good deal on imported 16mm B&W. E-mail currently is JASchwind@operamail.com. Web site is INTERNATIONAL FILM Home Page . Another gentleman is trying to link with other interested parties to special-order double super-8 reversal and negative: email.
Another gentleman is reperforating 16mm film to convert it to regular 8mm. You must write by snail mail or call on the phone as he does not seem to be email or internet enabled. The last we heard he charges £5 per 100' to convert double perf 16mm, and £10 per 100' to convert single perf 16mm, to regular 8 plus shipping. Contact: E S C. Nowill, 32B Wadham Road, Putney, London, SW15 2LR, United Kingdom. Tel: 020 8874 0069

Eclair ACL Resources
It has been claimed that the ACL is more suitable for making HDTV transfers than a $250,000 Arri 16-SR3, owing to the type of edge guiding giving better data compression behavior.
An Eclair ACL discussion forum can be found at http://www.topica.com/lists/EclairACL .

9.5mm Club
Not well known in the USA, Pathe 9.5mm film was introduced in 1922 and quickly eclipsed by Kodak's 16mm film of 1923, and again by their 8mm film of 1932, not to mention their super-8 of 1965. There are still a few luna... er, enthusiasts who film and project 9.5mm "nine-five" film. By having sprocket holes down the middle, instead of on the edges, 9.5 gives almost the same picture area as 16mm, but with a greater risk of severe scratching down the middle (dead link.) And, if anyone wants a source of unexposed 9.5mm film (slit from Fuji E-6 still camera film) try http://www.pathefilm.freeserve.co.uk/filmlista.htm .
