Installing the Battery in the TCS TMC2

The Memory Backup Battery is not installed in your TMC2.

(Note: this battery has no effect on the operation of the unit; its only function is to remember the footage count when the TMC2 is disconnected from the camera or main battery.)

1. To protect against static damage to the circuitry, sit down and ground yourself to a metal water pipe or conduit, or the metal housing of a grounded appliance.
2. Remove the 4 corner screws from the front panel of the TMC2 with a #2 Phillips screwdriver, and lift off the front panel assembly.
3. The pair of small circuit boards at the top is for the footage counter. Pull off the rear board so you can get to the battery receptacle, which is a round hole in the rear board.
4. Unwrap the battery from its package, a No. 392 1.5 volt silver oxide cell.
5. Gently lift up the negative (--) contact spring with a toothpick or small screwdriver, just enough so you can slide in the battery. Slide in the battery sideways, with the positive (+) case down, so this end will go down into the recess. Release the spring, so it is pressing against the center of the negative terminal of the battery.
6. While the boards are apart, this is a good time to check that the counter modulus is correct, for the film size you will be using. For 35mm film, the counter divides by 16 to convert frames to feet. For 16mm film, the counter divides by 40 to convert frames to feet.
For 16mm footage: turn on switches 2, 4, 6, 7 and turn off the rest.
For 35mm footage: turn on switches 1, 3, 5, 8 and turn off the rest.
7. Re-attach the rear board to the front board, engaging the two 3-pin header plugs.
8. Attach a small piece of adhesive tape over the top of the battery spring, to prevent the battery from being knocked loose by extremely rough handling.
9. Replace the front panel assembly in the case, and install the 4 corner screws.

The battery should last for several years of service. Replace it when the TMC2 fails to remember the footage count when it is disconnected from the camera for a few minutes or more.
